Lukas RutgersRutgers Luke was born in 1924 in the Netherlands. He was supposed to become a farmer and began an agricultural training, but decided at the age of 18, to start working on the railroad. He worked on the rail yard in Onnen, which also the trains from Kamp Westerbork passed. The first transport of Jews from Kamp Westerbork Luke Rutgers saw probably between 1942 and 1943. He remembers that the trains always imports to a given day in Onnen. The people were transported in cattle cars. Luke Rutgers describes the situation in which postcards were thrown out of the hatches. On his own admission, he never read these postcards. He put them in a bag and brought them to the mailbox.
